WELCOME! North Country Thunder Members for 2005:

It was so nice to see so many familiar faces and a few new faces at our at our spring meeting on May 1. Spring is finally here for the beautiful northern people. If you didn’t go to Florida, through the winter, the weather lately has felt like you never left there. So now, Ray and I must decide, if we should happily run out and ride in the cool spring air or should we just put all on of our warm clothing and pretend we are riding in Florida, where some people even wear heated vests to keep the goose bumps from getting on other body parts. Well, we choose spring in Brainerd, because we want to see all of our friends out again that have been hiding at home all winter! Now that you have tried to be so respectable all winter, it’s time to turn back into motorcycle maniacs! YEAH SPRING!

Thank you to Jim Johnson!
North Country Thunder members would like to thank JJ for helping, working, and guiding everyone through the many years of biker activities. It has always been nice to have a biker event coordinator that you can talk to anytime and about anything; instead of only getting a response on visitation days! JJ has never let us down. Thank You.

The New Secretary!
Raymond Wheeler is the new secretary for North Country Thunder, and Cindy, his grateful servant will make sure to it that he lives up to his responsibilities to the group by letting him, let me do all the newsletters and etc. Should I change my name to Monica? No, No! Then Ray would be expecting to have more fun in the office, then he is getting now, and that isn’t going to happen! Ray and I want everyone to have a fun and safe summer filled with lots of riding and some new adventures too, even if it’s only getting lost again on a ride somewhere. We’re used to that kind of adventure! Bring it on! So far, we have always made it back, victorious over the elements!

Membership Dues:
Dues need to be paid by our Summer party, which is on July 24. All members who have not paid by then will be dropped from our membership list. Dues are $20 per bike. Next year, dues may go up but they will not be calculated by how many trips that Bob takes next winter. Dues will only go up because of increasing costs for group functions and for buying extra equipment for our parties.

Suggestion Box:
A new suggestion box will be put in the Waterfall bar for any helpful suggestions on place to ride to, that we haven’t done or want to do again, or volunteers to lead, or any overnight rides, etc.

Bulletin Board:
There will also be a new bulletin board put up in the Waterfall bar for any group posters or info and other papers of interest.

Patches:
North Country Thunder patch design suggestions are welcome as soon as possible. Please give them to Ray of myself, or put them in the suggestion box. We would like them to be med. To small in size and it needs to say who we are and possibly how many years you have been a member. We cannot have MC on the patch because we are not a club, but rather, we are a very friendly group of above average, adventurous bikers, who know no boundaries, except for gravel roads. Let’s try to also get these designs in by the summer picnic so people can see them and possibly vote on them on that day. Ray’s sister Mary does make patches for all occasions so if you want to talk to her, you can call her at 218-765-4436.

Rummage Sale:
Some people have suggested that we have a rummage sale with the proceeds going to new equipment for the group to enjoy at different group functions, etc. One date that would work for this would be the weekend of July 29-30. Please let us know if this is something you as members would like to do. One other suggestion for the money to go for is to aid one of the freezing bikers in Florida next winter; but no no, there are too many of them so it just wouldn’t be fair to help only one.

Helpful Camping and Party Info:
1. Always have a picture ID on you
2. Always bring earplugs
3. Bug spray
4. Jugs of water (could get hot)
5. Flashlights
6. Sunscreen
7. Large garbage bags
8. Warm and cool clothing
9. Any medication you may need (so we don’t have to lie about knowing you if you suddenly become a different person in 10 seconds)
10. First aid kit
11. Make sure the person you bring with to a party can behave themselves. There are many exceptions to this rule but we learned how to control people like Miller last year. So if you want to have tons of fun, at your next party, don’t forget to invite Miller and the rest of them.

Florida Secrets:
Some of the well keep secrets that we found out when we went down to Florida this winter were:
1. There are lizards everywhere! The first night I was there, I was sitting in an eating place, reading the menu and so was a lizard 6 inches from me, reading the same menu too. They were everywhere outside too. People think it is funny when you almost crap your pants.
2. There are no cute people by the pool! Ha Ha! Ray didn’t get to see what he thought he was going to see. The only beautiful ones were in our group!
3. Never go near a pool, with someone named Bob in it! He turns into a water shooting sperm whale and everybody is wet.

Perfect Picnic!
Many thanks to  Chris and Joe at the Bridge Tavern for helping us have a really great picnic. They were very enthusiastic about us using their backyard for our get together. They truly are a biker friendly establishment. Chris even mentioned a biker special for our Wednesday night rides. We had lots of people show up and I don't think anyone left hungry. Thanks also to Bob Henke for grocery shopping and cooking and cleaning up and not whining about it. Thank you Larry (Lucky) Long for your special burgers, which all got eaten.

Short Notice!
Buck and Karla are going to continue the tradition started by Joe and Pam Wiltsey with a get together at their house after the blessing of the bikes on August 1st. You can find them at 14671 Wolf Trail in Crosslake. From Co. Rd. 3 in Crosslake stay right towards Fifty Lakes, go to first tar road past golf course (Pine Bay Rd) follow to Wolf Trail, 1st place on left.

Heads-up!
Here's news for new riders and a reminder for all you seasoned veterans. When we are riding in a large group, we ride in a staggered formation, not two abreast. No passing within the same lane. Try not to allow too large of a gap between you and the bikes ahead of you.

Leaders: Maintain a comfortable speed for everyone, wait at stop signs for the whole group to catch up, slowly resume cruising speed so the bikes in the rear don't have to kick in the nitrous to keep up.

Accidents may occur anyway, but we don't want to be the cause.

Winter Blues

It seems that my calendar always runs a little slow this time of year. Each day the anticipation of spring intensifies, and it's driving me nuts. Relief is still months away, so there' only one thing to so...Emergency Winter Blues Party!

So what if there's still snow on the ground and the thermometer still dips below zero. We can still fight these blues together. Listen up all you hardy bikers and bikettes out there, we're going to get together at The Old Waterfall, Sunday, March 14, at 5:00 pm.

Come hungry, cause we're gonna have tacos and stuff to eat. After we eat and have a few libations, we can commiserate about our long cold winter together. And what could be better for commiseration than the a live blues band... featuring Blues Train.

They play from 7:00-11:00 pm. So just come just to eat, or come just to drink, or come just to listen to the band, or eat and drink, or eat, drink, and listen. Just make sure you show up, cause we all want to see you. I'm just going to play pool, but I might eat, and drink, and listen to the band.

From now on all riders are required to wear a tie (color optional) and knee-high boots. Also passengers should learn the "we just passed you, you old fart" signal.

New Treasurer

Teresa Sarff is willing to take on the bean-counting duties. She will handle our bank account and keep track of our expenditures for parties, newsletters, and our new mobile hot tub. I'm sure she will do a terrific job.

If any of you meet a Harley rider who is interested in joining our group, get their phone number to me and I'll sign them up. The more the merrier.
